( CSF #7251 / #7252 / #8377 )

The 458 Italia/Spider/Speciale/Challenge was the last mid-engine naturally aspirated V8 car Ferrari produced. Some consider the 458 to be the last true Ferrari and have been climbing in value for the last 5 years. It’s not just collectors after these cars though. People want to drive them, and to drive them like they’re meant to be, they need to be well maintained.

With production starting in 2009 and ending in 2015, many Ferrari 458s are reaching the age where many major components need to be replaced. So it should come as no surprise that many owners are finding themselves needing to replace their original factory radiators and A/C condenser.

With factory replacement radiators costing as much as $2000 USD each and condensers close to $1000, it is not surprising many owners and shops are looking for high quality alternatives that will outperform and outlast the OE units. CSF teamed up with Hollywood Mechanic to design High-Performance Radiators and an OEM+/Performance A/C Condenser for the Ferrari 458 lineup.

Design & Engineering

Radiators – CSF #7251 (LH) & CSF #7252 (RH)

When initially designing the radiators, there were several key features that CSF knew were important to the Ferrari community: OEM Fit & Finish, Increased performance, improved reliability, and better serviceability.

Key Design Features:

  • Drain plugs added to the end tanks to make coolant change services easier.
  • 20-25% increase in heat transfer efficiency using CSF’s new 5mm Fin & Exclusive B-Tube Technology.
  • Improved cooling performance supports additional heat generated by high-performance driving, racing, and/or aftermarket turbo setups.
  • TIG-Welded 100% All Aluminum construction offers incredible durability and longevity vs the factory plastic tank design.
  • Designed to fit perfectly in the OE location utilizing the factory ducting, and mounting system.

CSF vs OEM

The original 458 radiators from Ferrari feature aluminum cores crimped onto plastic end tanks. While generally accepted as good quality and durable, this design is significantly weaker than the all-aluminum TIG welded design of the CSF Radiators.

Drain Plugs Added

One of the biggest flaws of the original radiators was the lack of a drain plug. Most shops and service centers will recommend changing the 458’s coolant every 2-4 years or 15,000 miles. That means most 458’s have had coolant changes 5-8 times by now.

Every time the coolant is changed, the rubber hoses are pulled off the radiator, often along with some of the plastic from the radiator inlet/outlet. This puts stress on the plastic tanks and crimped gaskets connecting them to the core. It also wears down the hoses faster due to the bending and manipulation. CSF added drain plugs to the lower tanks making service simpler and reducing the risk of the hoses wearing out prematurely.

The CSF Advantage

The CSF radiators feature the latest 5mm multi-louvered fins. These fins significantly increase the heat exchange surface area improving overall cooling efficiency and recovery while still maintaining good airflow. Each core is 26% larger than the original featuring 2-Row 42mm aluminum core. This both increases the fluid capacity of the radiator, and improves the core’s ability to dissipate heat. The use of CSF’s 5mm fins also allowed for an additional cooling tube and fin row.

CSF’s Exclusive B-Tube Technology increases the heat transfer by approximately 15% over regular oval welded tubes. Combined with the new 5mm fins, heat transfer is increased by up to 25% overall. In addition, the super-efficient multi-louvered fins maximize airflow through the core for the best possible performance.

The combination of TIG-Welded 100% All Aluminum construction increases the overall strength of the radiator. This improves durability and longevity so you can be confident it will hold up to hard driving conditions. Additionally, the satin black finish gives the radiator a clean OEM look and both radiators are a true Plug-and-Play “Drop-in Fit” application.

5mm Core Upgrade

CSF always seeks to offer the ultimate cooling solution. The latest 5mm fin technology was introduced at the end of 2023 offers even more heat transfer area and thermal efficiency than CSF’s tried and true 6.5mm fins. Ferrari owners are known to push their cars hard and CSF is confident this radiator is ready to take on the most demanding conditions in the world.

Plug and Play Installation

CSF designed these Radiators to easily replace the OEM units. The Plug-and-Play “Drop-in Fit” installation means all the factory shrouds and brackets will line up and bolt on perfectly. This includes the Power Steering Cooler on the right-hand side as well as the A/C Condenser on the left-hand side. It’s also a great time to replace your old condenser with the new CSF #8377 OEM+/Performance A/C Condenser.

Condenser – CSF #8377

CSF has decades of experience designing and manufacturing A/C Condensers, and has once again applied modern design and manufacturing techniques to these Ferrari units. The result is a condenser that fits perfectly, outperforms the factory system by a significant margin, and costs less than a new OEM unit.

CSF vs OEM

The Ferrari 458 Condenser utilizes a modern parallel-flow core design similar to the original OE unit. However, the CSF 16mm 14-channel microtube core offers better flow and more surface area contact for superior heat transfer. The 5.4mm tall multi-louvered fins further improve heat transfer over the basic fin design of the OE unit. Together, these features offer better heat dissipation for the refrigerant while increasing airflow to the radiator behind it.

Key Differences and Improvements:

  • Increased performance: Approximately 5% better performance than a brand-new OEM condenser and much larger improvement over a clogged or dirty unit that has been installed for some time.
  • More airflow to the radiator behind the condenser for better engine cooling performance.
  • Improved Durability: More robust design and construction materials.
  • Less Expensive: Around half the price of a new Genuine Ferrari unit.

Why Upgrade?

Whether your original condenser is dinged up or clogged from normal wear and tear, or it’s slowly leaking due to age, CSF’s OEM+/Performance A/C Condenser is a no-brainer. It is a straight forward plug-and-play installation, more efficient, and built to last. If you are already replacing the radiators, it is a good time to replace your old condenser while the front end is apart for the job, saving you more on labor costs.
